I have purchased one WH-1000 XM5.
Positive Attributes
-
The sound quality is impressive.
-
The features provided by the companion AOSP application are decently powerful, and generally applied without a restart, which is convenient.
Negative Attributes
However, the hardware is thoroughly disappointing:
-
The touch panel is only on the right earcup, which means that those missing a limb or simply left-handed cannot become used to this method of operation.
-
Because it has so few backup buttons (for no reason – significant space exists for more surrounding the cup) it cannot be used with gloves on or wet.
In fact, wetness is the greatest problem that these face. They cannot be used in any kind of rain, or even a humid environment. It absolutely wrecks them temporarily – it produces the most awful sounds for the next few weeks, until it dries.
Tangential
Regarding this, Sony’s account systems are not well unified, and they appear to believe that to send a product in use by the user, they must provide the RMA’d product first, whereas the best course of action is to send the replacement, and, then, accept the RMA, so that disruption to the user is minimal.
-
They cannot be utilised whilst charging, whereas Fairphone’s can.
