Liberapay 

Liberapay allows to make recurrent donations to projects and people working on libre projects. It’s non-profit so the only cuts taken are the actual payment fees. You can support Liberapay itself by donating to it’s team within the service.

The site is easy to use and well made. There are good tools for managing your donations. It’s also easy to discover new interesting projects on the platform. I bet you will find there software you’re already using!

Liberapay ist in meinen Augen keine Crowdfunding-Plattform auch wenn die englischsprachige Wikipedia sie als solches kategorisiert. Hier werden keine Spenden bis zu einem gewissen Betrag gesammelt sondern die Betreiber von Online-Angeboten bitten um eine regelmäßige Spende.

Auch ohne diese Spenden kann der angebotene Service des Spendensammlers weiterbestehen und hier liegt der größte Unterschied zum Crowdfunding. Ohne eine erreichte Spendensumme wird es kein Produkt geben.

Der komplette Programmcode ist auf GitHub einsehbar und die Nutzung der Plattform Liberapay kostet nichts. Alles Spenden gehen komplett an den Empfänger allerdings sind die Spenden auf 100,00 € pro Woche und Spender begrenzt.

Ich nutze Liberpay um ein paar, von mir sehr geschätzten, Projekten regelmäßig einen Betrag zukommen zu lassen. Dabei sind die empfangenen Spenden jederzeit auf dem Profil des Empfängers einzusehen. Ein sehr transparenter Weg um Projekte zu unterstützen.

Liberapay is a platform for recurrent donations to creators and other individuals or organisations worth supporting. Sign-up, loading money and setting up your recurrent donations is straight-forward, so that you really have no excuse not to support your favorite creators.

Contrary to its commercial counterparts (such as Patreon), Liberapay is a non-profit, its code is open source and it does not take a cut (except for payment fees) from the money flowing between donors and recipients. Payment fees are kept low by offering SEPA bank transfers in addition to credit card payments. This means that significantly more of your money will actually reach the intended recipient instead of paying for the profits of venture capital investors.

The only potential downside is that Liberapay is strictly a donations platform: you cannot provide “perks” to your supporters as is possible with Patreon and others. The reason for this is that this way you are really receiving donations and not providing a service, which I guess might make things easier depending on your countries’ laws (e.g. regarding taxes, social security, and/or liability).
