More than just a place to eat

Pfannenzauber is a fully vegan restaurant where most of the staff are totally committed to the concept and are friendly and cheerful, they are also committed to combatting food waste!

The food is most of the time very tasty and a seasonal menu ensures a change of their offer. However, there’s a huge fluctuation in portion size, sometimes it’s way too small. They offer a free portion of fries if your dish contained fries and was not sufficient to satisfy your hunger, which is nice, but not what I am looking for. There are in general many items on the menu that one expects to find at a snack point, but not in a restaurant. If one ignores the latter, one can basically just choose between the two saisonal options.

Moreover, refusing payments by card was already outdated 10 years ago. They have a couple of arguments why they refuse it, which would be valid if one would expect card only payments, but that was not what the discussion was about.

Fries, fries, fries

If you’re not interested in fries, you better look for another place. They offer several vegan dishes which are indicated as such on the menu.

However, the amount of vegan options decreased significantly in the course of the last year. The same applies to the portion sizes and and amount of ‘toppings’. The vegan currywurst e.g. contains only traces of sauce. Since, the prizes went also up, the stars of this review went further down.

Share Text & Files Reliably

App is simple to use and works over LAN / WLAN. Makes life easy by sharing text, files, apps, media to other networks on the same network. The exchange traffic is also encrypted which is good for privacy and security.

Access YouTube with Privacy

I have been using NewPipe for more than 5 years to access YouTube and I must say it always works as expected. No ads, background playback, video/audio downloads, offline subscription, I use all of those features.

The app will break very rarely, but it’s not NewPipe’s fault. Google now & then makes a change in YouTube service which breaks the app, but the community finds a solution / workaround which gets fixed quickly in the next hotfix version.

Beyond YouTube, the app also has support to access video/audio contents PeerTube, SoundCloud, CCC Media, etc.,

Beautiful Historical Temple

This is an historical site maintained by Archeological Survey of India (ASI). A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva which was built between 9 CE - 10 CE.

Though it is located in Chikkaballapur district of today’s Karnataka, the temple has evidences of stone inscriptions with Tamil letters in it which possibly links to Chola empire influence along with other regional empires from time to time.

Often people visit only the Nandi hill top but miss this masterpiece located downhill. There is ample space for car parking & paid washrooms are also available.

It is not only an historical relic but a living temple with daily rituals taking place. This is a dual shrine temple, one for Bhoga Nandishwara & other for Arunchala.

The pond is what I loved the most in this temple. Since it was full, they had locked it when we went but the view even from the gate is spectacular.

I highly recommend to visit this place.
Parking: 40 INR for car.

Needs Active Development

Reviews was one of the key missing component in the opendata & Openstreetmap ecosystem. This project along with mangrove.reviews has the potential to fill that gap.

Lib.reviews is simple & easy to use compared with mangrove.reviews since it sticks to a traditional account & web based approach.

Not all API endpoints are implemented as of writing this review and the project also needs to be actively developed & maintained.

While technical contributors can improve the code, everyone should focus on adding reviews which is what this project will be valued for.

Together we can get rid of Big Tech dependency one thing at a time. Let’s keep moving!

Much appreciation & love to the developer who started this project. Commons FTW!

Gelateria & Pizzeria Centro

Guter Italiener in Bad Nenndorf  de

Decent for the price

Room is as shown on the website as of August 2025. No real surprises. Note that you enter your room with a 6-digit code that you get on paper, you need to either carry it around or write it in your phone. I liked the system

Pros:

  1. Unconstrained window. Not big, but still!
  2. Shower temperature completely stable (it might have helped that it was 2AM), in many other hotels it fluctuates quite a bit between warm and cold

Cons:

  1. Power outlet only at one of the two nightstands
  2. Breakfast was rather basic, especially for 14€

Good hotel

I paid 120€ for 1 weekend night in August 2025: an okay price I think. Other reviews on Booking mentioned a functional AC which I thought might be a life saver at this time of year.

The basics are all as you expect: clean, good bed, WiFi works fine, etc.

Negatives:

  1. The room was warm (25°C) when I entered despite the tilted window, very warm for sleeping for me. This was several degrees warmer than the outside afternoon temperature on that day, but the heater in the room was cold, so maybe neighboring rooms were running the heater on high?
  2. The curtains are not really curtains. They’re these privacy cloths that block the view, but not much light. Not a big deal since I wanted to get up early anyway but I was rather surprised at this choice!
  3. Breakfast is standard for a hotel of this price. Very limited options for vegans. I would have liked the option to not include breakfast and be able to buy more environmentally friendly products for less money elsewhere

Positives:

  1. The window is not restricted and can be opened all the way. Additionally, an air conditioning unit was hanging in the room, but I did not try it because the window was sufficient.
  2. The staircase is quiet and won’t wake up other guests if you come in late. The doors aren’t that soundproof, but the hotel seems to have done a good job of eliminating sources of noise
  3. Uncomplicated check-in process (no copy of identity document required), pay at check-out
  4. Friendly staff that is available 24/7
  5. Desk and comfortable chair in the room (but not a desk chair: just a bench without backrest). Would be sufficient for me; having this furniture in the first place is a plus
